Those With Poor Nutrition Put Us All at Risk for Swine Flu

The common wisdom is that those who don’t get the Swine Flu Shot put us all at risk for the disease. But what if those who have poor nutrition put us at risk even MORE? Well, it could very well be true. Those who have poor nutrition not only put themselves at risk for swine flu because of their decreased immunity, but their decreased immunity actually allows the flu virus to change into an even MORE deadly disease.

 

The research to back this started with a surprising finding in children with heart disease in the province of Keshan in China. It has been found that an ‘epidemic’ of heart failure in children was due to a deficiency of selenium in the soils of the area. Prompt supplementation of the inhabitants curbed this heart failure epidemic. But small numbers of people continued to get heart failure and researchers found that those who died from this Heart Failure From Selenium Deficiency- now called Keshan disease- actually had a viral infection that had attacked their heart.

When researchers studied those who died of natural causes, they were found to ALSO have the virus in their hearts but it did not affect them. Studies on mice exposed to the same virus found that selenium deficient mice exposed to the NON VIRULENT virus, died of heart failure too. The surprise came when it was found that the VIRUS actually CHANGED into a killer when selenium was deficient!

 

The Implications of this are Huge

This important finding has since been repeated with the Selenium and Influenza as well. And the findings were the same. A non-virulent flu virus, when exposed to a host with different varied nutritional deficiencies, will mutate and change into a more virulent virus. Not only that, but the NEW more virulent virus was able to sicken those who were previously IMMUNE to the old virus!

While the research that proved the genetic mutations was done on mice, there is no reason to believe that these findings don’t apply to humans. And we have several examples of this in nature. The first is the example of Keshan Disease that was mentioned earlier; another example was an ‘epidemic’ of a virus that caused optic and peripheral neuropathy. Neuropathy is a nervous system disorder that causes pain and decreased sensation in the affected areas. This virus was one of the Causes of Peripheral Neuropathy that affected over 50,000 people in Cuba between the years 1991 to 1993.

 

 

Interestingly, the CURE for both Keshan disease and this neuropathy in Cuba is NOT antiviral medications or vaccinations… but VITAMINS. Keshan disease is not only PREVENTED, but CURED by the administration of selenium. And the viral neuropathy in Cuba was, likewise, cured by MULTIVITAMIN SUPPLEMENTS- and it was prevented in the majority of the population of Cuba simply be handing out High Quality Multivitamin Supplements to the population!

This information should be trumpeted around the world. Poor nutrition allows viruses to mutate and change and puts us all at risk of diseases and epidemics. But this information has quietly been ignored in favor of ‘herd immunity’ through an attempt at vaccination of the total population. Those who refuse vaccinations are vilified as a threat to the rest of us. But these findings suggest that the REAL threat comes from those who have poor nutrition and allow these illnesses to mutate and change in their bodies, bringing a worse form of the disease to the rest of the population. While the nutritional deficiencies affect the immune system, a weakened immune system ALSO makes pathogens more virulent- allowing them to spread back to a population who was previously immune to them. There is no way that ‘Herd Immunity’ from any Swine Flu Shot program will be able to keep up with that, as much as the pharmaceutical companies may try.

A Mythological 1919 Flu Story…Don’t Be Fooled…

There is a story going around about the 1919 Influenza Pandemic and how to ward off the Swine Flu. But it can’t POSSIBLY be true, so don’t be fooled! Here’s the 1919 Mythological Influenza Story.

 


    In 1919 when the flu killed 40 million people there was this Doctor that visited the many farmers to see if he could help them combat the flu. Many of the farmers and their families had contracted it and many died.

    The doctor came upon this one farmer and to his surprise, everyone was very healthy. When the doctor asked what the farmer was doing that was different the wife replied that she had placed an unpeeled onion in a dish in the rooms of the home, (probably only two rooms back then). The doctor couldn’t believe it and asked if he could have one of the onions and place it under the microscope. She gave him one and when he did this, he did find the flu virus in the onion. It obviously absorbed the virus, therefore, keeping the family healthy.

    Now, I heard this story from my hairdresser in AZ.. She said that several years ago many of her employees were coming down with the flu and so were many of her customers. The next year she placed several bowls with onions around in her shop. To her surprise, none of her staff got sick. It must work.. (And no, she is not in the onion business.)

    The moral of the story is, buy some onions and place them in bowls around your home. If you work at a desk, place one or two in your office or under your desk or even on top somewhere. Try it and see what happens. We did it last year and we never got the flu.

     

    While this is a nice little story about the 1919 flu, it is JUST that, a story. It cannot possibly be true because you can’t see the flu virus with a microscope! Even the best oil immersion compound microscopes today can only see a particle about 1/2 micron in size, and the flu virus is approximately one micron- that would have been a HUGE feat for emerging technology at that time. And the electron microscope, which CAN see the flu virus was only invented in 1933!



    In fact, in the book The Great Influenza: The story of the deadliest pandemic in history one of the top researchers of the flu virus at that time had become an epidemiologist because he had a microscope and most of the other medical students did not- and if you wanted to USE a microscope in medical school, you had to have your own!

    Also in the book, much of the stories of the several scientists working on creating a flu vaccine centered around their frenzied attempts to identify the causative agent behind the pandemic. The researchers just KNEW that it was caused by some sort of microorganism, but using all of the resources of the top universities and laboratories of the time, they could not identify it. At one point, they were able to filter out a liquid that made ferrets sick with a flu-like illness when they injected it into them. And bingo, they had the beginnings of the first flu vaccine.

    But at that time, no one had SEEN the flu virus. Only until later during the epidemic did someone come up with an advanced staining technique that allowed the virus to be seen, but this was still a complicated hit-and-miss technique that a rural doctor with a hand-held microscope and an onion could not have POSSIBLY been able to accomplish.

     

    So, maybe an onion in the house DOES work to ward off the swine flu, I don’t know, but I DO know that the farmer and the onion story of the Influenza Epidemic of 1919 is officially a myth.

Flu Prevention Using the Antiviral Activity of Garlic

With the Swine Flu now looming as a Pandemic, there is lots of information and misinformation about what to do about the flu. How to prevent it and how to limit its effects if you DO get the flu should be primary concern for everyone right now.

 

While the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) is preaching avoidance and handwashing, they Completely Ignore means of strengthening the immune system as a means of prevention. While avoidance and handwashing are powerful tools to keep from getting the flu- if the people that DO HAVE the flu knew who to avoid- don’t you think that they would have?

It’s not always obvious who has the flu, and people may be able to spread the flu BEFORE they have any symptoms, so if you have to go to work or school and shop for groceries, then who do you avoid- EVERYONE? We live in a society- especially right now in this difficult economy – where it is simply not practical to stay home from work.

And right now, a large part of the US economy is driven by health care. So, the millions who actually work directly in the health care industry AND those who actually work with patients are not going to just be able to stay home. They will also have increased susceptibility to contracting the flu and increased ability to TRANSMIT the flu as well.

 

So, the rational and practical thing to do is to make your immune system as strong as possible right now ANDstart to take specific natural immune boosting and antiviral supplements that will improve your chances of fighting off the flu if your ARE exposed to it.

So, this is the first in a series of blog posts that will tell you more about antiviral and immune boosting supplements, likeSelenium and Influenza, that may help you to ward off the flu and/or decrease the severity of your illness if you DO happen to get the flu.

Garlic

The first supplement that I wil discuss with you today is Garlic. Garlic, also known by its botanical name of Allium sativum is a very old and very well known antiviral, antibacterial and immune system modulator.

Garlic contains a wide variety of ingredients that may contribute to its effects. Among them are: Selenium, sulphur, germanium and magnesium. Many of these particular compounds are sorely missing in the typical westerners diet and each of these compounds, individually, have been widely studied for their beneficial effects. But put together, they produce an amazing product whose properties are matched no where else.

 

How to Take Garlic and why it works

One account of health care workers in Japan during a 1970′s flu epidemic showed that many who did not get the flu were taking garlic. The ‘traditional’ way that they were taking it is illustrated below:

This garlic preparation [of minced garlic and honey] is chewed and retained in the oral cavity as long as possible for the liberated volatile compounds to penetrate and be absorbed by the tissues of the mouth, nasopharynx, and sinuses

This preparation is in agreement with a study done of 125 traditional healers in which 94% stated that the best way to use garlic medicinally is to mince it and eat it raw- mixing in butter or honey was acceptable. But only 20% used it cooked or steeped, while still agreeing that it negatively affected it’s medicinal value.

Garlic MAY help to coat the mucous membranes of the mouth and nose when taken this way, effecting a so called antiviral barrier that could potentially kill the flu virus when and if it were to come into contact with the mucous membranes of the mouth and nose- the most likely way to contract the flu.

 

Taken this way, garlic may also have the potent effect of keeping  people far enough away from you to keep you from being able to inhale their exhaled viruses!!

 

While garlic is DIRECTLY an antiviral and antibacterial on contact, as shown in many studies, garlic is ALSO an immune system booster in its own right. Many studies show that it can significantly boost the effects of the immune system when taken orally. One study on AIDS patients who ALL had a decrease in the level of their ‘Natural Killer Cells’, a potent immune system cell, before treatment- showed EVERY PATIENT to have NORMAL levels after 12 weeks of taking garlic orally!

 

Aside from the antiviral and immunomodulating effects of garlic, another reason that it is potent protection from diseases is its detoxification abilities. Garlic has sulphur containing amino acids which act of the liver to help with detoxification. In fact, it is such a potent detoxifier that studies show it has good effects on getting rid of lead and cadmium! This effect of garlic could generally produce an effect of making the body work less and allowing it to heal rather than to detoxify.

 

All of these reasons put together make garlic a powerful protector against possible infections and possibly even the flu.
