What Causes Multiple Sclerosis in Children seems like a huge mystery, and the disease is a tragedy in and of itself. But what if that tragedy could be prevented and that neurologists have admittedly known for some time what causes MS in children and adults- and that it can be prevented- yet they refuse to do anything about it?
Well, that IS the sad state of affairs in our country at this time- and in countries around the world. This statement came out today after the results of a new vitamin d study on Children with MS:
is a risk factor for developing MS, but this is the first study
to assess whether vitamin D levels influence the disease
course of those who already have MS,”
Ellen Mowry, MD, MCR
A Clinical Instructor of Neurology
UCSF Multiple Sclerosis Center
Low Vitamin D levels are associated with greater risk of relapse
in childhood-onset Multiple Sclerosis
Yet these same people who ‘have known for some time that vitamin d insufficiency is a risk factor for developing MS’ choose not to do vitamin d levels or recommend vitamin d supplements for children or adults- despite the fact that there is a MULTITUDE of evidence that nearly 85% of people around the world, children and adults, are suffering from Vitamin D Deficiency.
So, the doctors in this first world country who are neurologists at one of the most prestigious medical centers in the country are choosing to continue to do studies seeing how Vitamin D administration affects the RELAPSE rates of those With multiple sclerosis- rather than actually do ANYTHING to PREVENT this disease- when they already know HOW to decrease the incidence of the disease significantly. Read the page on MS and Vitamin D and for some of the research that has been done on this subject.
This sounds unbelievably close to unethical experimentation if you think about the statement that they ‘have known for some time…”. And in fact, this correlation is SO clear that even a child can figure out what causes MS- and one of them has. Shine on Scotland is the non-profit organization started by 14 year old Ryan McLaughlin whose mother has Multiple Sclerosis. When he discovered the link between Vitamin D and MS over a year ago, he launched a campaign to get school milk in Scotland fortified with Vitamin D. The Scottish government still has not met his requests.
But Ryan is not the only one who is being ignored by the Scottish Government. Oliver Gilley, a scientist, journalist and former chairman of the Medical Journalists’ Association has been petitioning the Scottish Government of the urgent need to raise vitamin d awareness and dosage levels in order to prevent Multiple Sclerosis in children and adults since 2005. He has the ear and agreement of multiple scientists and doctors around the world. He has lobbied the House of Commons and written extensive research papers like this pdf entitiled, Scotland’s Health Deficit, An Explanation and a Plan. But the Scottish government is NOT taking any action despite the fact that it has the highest rate of Multiple Sclerosis in children and adults in the WORLD and that they, too, MUST know what causes MS!!
There are THOUSANDS of studies on Vitamin D’s safe use- even at what would seem to be EXTREMELY high doses, it’s safety is amazing and Overdose on Vitamin D is so extraordinarily rare that the vast majority of cases have been industrial accidents when food was fortified with doses thousands of times higher than required. Yet the Scottish government told Ryan that, “…it would not be appropriate to introduce fortified milk (or other fortified drinks) at school until such time as the evidence base is more conclusive about the impact on the population.” This is DESPITE the fact that Oxford University believes that milk fortification could prevent 2000 cases of MS AND save over 4 billion pounds over the next ten years, and despite the World Health Organization Recommending that they implement a fortification plan, and despite the fact that they could have the ‘safety data’ of milk fortification in an instant because of the record of its decades of safe use in other countries.
So, while UCSF Neurologists and Scottish schoolchildren have ‘known for some time’ that Multiple Sclerosis in Children and adults can be prevented; the governments, scientists, doctors and medical centers are doing NOTHING to actually PREVENT this disease- when they admittedly know that what causes MS in the first place is Vitamin D Deficiency.
