Oprah’s Calorie Restriction DietIs it Really about the Calories?

On The Oprah Winfrey Show today, Oprah and Dr. Mehmet Oz talked about the Calorie Restriction Diet and how the concept of long term calorie restriction as the number one keys to Longevity and slowing down the aging process.
 
 

While there IS incontrovertible evidence that chronic calorie restriction DOES increase life span- not only in animal models, but in humans as well- is it REALLY the lack of calories that are responsible for the longer life span?
 
 
The ‘typical’ calorie restriction diet is NOT simply about calories, but about nutrition and feeling full. So, the diet does not restrict calories by eating nothing but potato chips and Coke!
 
 

It does this by maximizing fiber and nutrients and eliminating anything that doesn’t do that.
 
 
What does the Calorie Restriction Diet Eliminate:

  • Sodas
  • Juices
  • Alcohol
  • Most Breads and Grains (not all)
  • Junk food
  • Processed and Refined Foods
  • Refined Sugar
  • Fatty Meats
  • Most Dairy products

 
 
So, not only does the diet eliminate junk foods and empty calories, but it ALSO (virtually) eliminates wheat and dairy- the main Food Allergens that contribute to health problems.
