Kerri,

You are the BOMB, girl! I have been studying nutrition for years as it seems to be much more important than drugs/chemicals in my mind. But a few days ago, I was at a meeting where a couple of police friends and I had discussions about their health and nutrition. I told both of them that I can't diagnose or rx, but I would do some research on the web for them. They agreed. That's when I found you website and OH! What a website it is. I have been reading easy immune health all day and forwarding the info to others. You are wonderful. Thank you.

Back in 2000, I purchased a bottle of B-12 and took it for three days. By the third day, I was combing handfuls of hair out of my head. I immediately stopped taking the vitamin, but I continued filling up (literally) sandwich-sized baggies of hair on a daily basis! Unfortunately, I lost so much hair that I had to get it cut to about 2" long. Any clue as to why this would happen? I've always attributed it to the B12 since that was the one and only change I had made during that time period.

This was a show ABOUT calorie restriction, it wasn't a description of Oprah's diet. In fact, I had to laugh because Oprah looked HORRIFIED when they were talking to the people on the show who were practicing calorie restriction. But you are absolutely right about soy. The only soy that ANYONE should eat is FERMENTED soy (tempeh and miso), which removes the phytic acid that impairs the thyroid. But then you have to make sure it's organic because soy is HEAVILY laden with pesticides AND make sure that it's GMO- that is NOT such an easy feat to find fermented, organic and non GMO soy- so if you aren't eating it that way, then you really shouldn't be eating it at all- ESPECIALLY if you have thyroid issues!

Unfortunately, Oprah's diet also consisted of massive amounts of soy which is goiterogenic and the worst possible thing she could be taking considering she has a thyroid problem. In fact, soy is a pretty toxic food for a lot of people. I wish there were more discussion about the dangers of soy (most especially for anyone with hypothyroidism, which is quite common).

So this alkaline myth was debunked already by a dentist named Weston Price in the 1920's. He traveled around the world studying groups of people who had no contact with outside food.

He even took samples of their foods and determined the alkaline and acid content of the foods.

Most of these people had not ONLY perfect health, but no cavities and - interestingly- perfectly STRAIGHT teeth with NO IMPACTED WISDOM TEETH.

He determined that many of these peoples had EXTREMELY acidic diets and yet did not get so much as a cold. A wonderful example were the Masai in Africa who eat virtually nothing but beef, cow's milk and cow's blood- EXTRAORDINARILY acidic.

Yet the Masai were huge warriors with impressive physiques and most were close to 7 foot tall and were in perfect health.

So, don't believe acid vs alkaline. It makes no sense. What health has to do with it pure healthy, nutritious, fresh, local, unprocessed food.

That will make you healthy, not 'acid or alkaline' anything.

Hi Bron,

While your pain may be due to many things and you should always have a full medical workup to rule out anything serious. But if you already have been worked up and nothing has been found, then YES, your problems COULD very well be due to Vitamin D Deficiency.

Get your Vitamin D Level Checked ASAP, making sure that you get the 25(OH)D level done.

Then, you need to make sure that you get aggressive enough treatment to get your level up to between 50 to 80 ng/ml. Any less and you could still have mild Vitamin D deficiency that could be contributing to your pain.

Also, you could be deficient in the anti-inflammatory Omega 3 Fatty Acids as well. Getting a good Omega 3 Fatty Acid Supplement could be of benefit as could taking turmeric- both of which are anti-inflammatory.

I also recommend that you check out the website www.tendonitisexpert.com It sounds like you may have some degree of plantar fasciitis which one of his videos there may be able to help you with.

Let me know if I can help further.

Hi
Over the last year I have had pain in my shoulders, arms, lower back and ankles and feet. I can hardly walk when i get out of bed but it comes good after a few minutes of walking. My arms shoulders and lowe back are constantly in pain.

I would be most grateful for any advise on how to treat this. I have been thinking that I think I may have a vitamin D defficiency.

Kind regards Bron

More on the Acid Alkaline Balance issue. I found a great article by Dr. Weston Price who studied 'primitive' cultures in relation to their diet, health and dental health. This acticle@

http://www.ppnf.org/catalog/ppnf/Articles/Acid_ba...

specifically deals with his observations of the acid-alkaline balance of primitives and their food in relation to their health.

An except from this states, "It is my belief that much harm has been done through the misconception that acidity and alkalinity were something apart from minerals and other elements. Many food faddists have undertaken to list foods on the basis of their acidity and alkalinity without the apparent understanding of the disturbances that are produced by, for example, condemning a food because it contains phosphoric acid..."

Some of the examples from his studies that he didn't mention in this article are the Masai people. Most of the men were over 6 feet tall, were strong warriors and had perfect teeth. Their diet of mostly milk, meat and blood would not only be considered highly alkaline, but certain to cause instant heart disease by our dietary standards.

Yet these people were some of the heartiest people that Dr. Price met.
